IMPENDING DOOM: 'More Than Conquerors' Video Released
May 1, 2009"More Than Conquerors", the new video from California-based Christian death metallers IMPENDING DOOM, can be viewed below. An intense live performance clip directed by Robby Starbuck (A STATIC LULLABY, A SKYLIT DRIVE),the video shows the band shoulder to shoulder with an audience of kids headbanging and losing their mind. Bassist David Sittig explained the genesis of the video: "We had a contest where the first 150 kids to respond to our post could be part of our video. We performed on the same level as the kids with no barriers as we wanted a real intense, in your face show."
In other news, the band's previously announced headlining Mexican run has been cancelled due to the breakout of swine flu that originated there. Sittig commented: "Apparently a bunch of the venues have been temporarily closed for quarantine. We intend to return to Mexico at some point in the summer and send our best wishes to our fans over there."
"The Serpent Servant", the new album from IMPENDING DOOM, sold 4,300 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 144 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD landed at No. 3 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
"The Serpent Servant" was recorded at Lambesis Studios in San Diego with Tim Lambesis and Daniel Castleman (AS I LAY DYING, WAR OF AGES, WINDS OF PLAGUE) and was released today (March 31) through Facedown Records. It was mixed and mastered by Zeuss (HATEBREED, SHADOWS FALL, TERROR).
IMPENDING DOOM refers to its style of Christian metal as "gorship" — a portmanteau of gore and worship. The band also clarify on their MySpace blog that "gorship" is their way of worshipping God through their gore-sounding music; not worshipping "gore" as some are led to believe.
